About Me

My name is Shanna Baslee, and I was born and raised in the BC interior just outside of Nelson, BC.  For the last 22 years, I have been living in Victoria, BC on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. I am very grateful to be able to live, work, and raise my two daughters on these lands.  I received my Bachelor’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Victoria, and I have experience working as an English as an additional language (EAL) instructor and tutor with youth and adults. For the past 9 years, I’ve worked at a local community college as an instructional assistant in English Language Development (ELD), where I provide one-on-one language and learning support for domestic and international adult English language learners.

I’m very much interested in finding creative and innovative ways to build digital literacy skills for newly immigrated adult learners who often struggle with the demands of technology use within their language classes.  I’m also interested in incorporating digital tools as a way of building an inclusive learning environment and allowing students to express themselves and tell their stories in a variety of ways.

This blog and the current course I’m taking, Technological Literacies, have inspired me to continue to push the limits of my own digital literacy skills in order to build my knowledge and understanding and better support the students I work with on their own technological journeys! If you’ve stumbled across this page, I hope you find something worthwhile amongst my posts :-).
